Ben 10

I can't believe Ben is 10 today.  Where does the time go?  We tell Ben the story of his birth often.  He cam fast and furious.  Literally, like 50 minutes start to finish and at one point, they told me to not push as they didn't have a doctor yet.  They almost sent the ER doctor up to deliver him.  Luckily, some baby doctor showed up.  Then, we tell Ben he flew out and hasn't stopped moving since.  It's pretty accurate.

Ben and his best buddy, Andrew, went out for dinner and to Freedom Station to celebrate his birthday.  These boys are two peas in a pod.  They both love anything superhero.

They played some laser tag.

And some video games.

Then, these two teenage girls didn't want their tickets, so they gave them to the boys.  It was like 500 tickets.  How nice is that?  Ben got a whoppy cushion.

Ben loves chocolate cake, but he loves his Dad's homemade cheesecake.  We only make it for special occasions...hello 5 things of cream cheese, 7 eggs, you get the idea.  It's not diet food, but it's worth every delicious calorie.

Ben thought long and hard about his wish.

Then, we opened presents this morning.

And Ben wanted to go for a hike.  He LOVES climbing rocks.

Their is a bridge to cross this stream, but that's boring apparently.

David crossed first to make sure it was stable.

Then, Ben went.
It was only about a foot of water, so the worst that would happen is you'd get wet.
The other two didn't want to go...yet.

We hadn't been on this hike and the kids loved the rock grotto area.

Ben is always leading the pack.

A little rest.  It was surprisingly hot out.

After our hike, we went back to the little rock cave area.
It was so cool.  The kids wanted to live in there.
See that rock pointing down behind Emily's head?
It's literally, this huge boulder that is just wedged there.

I kept thinking of that movie, 127 hours, where the rock slips, traps his arm and he cuts it off.
Thank goodness that didn't happen today.

On the way back, every one got in on the log fun.
Well, not me.  I prefer to stay dry.

Noah was so cute and took baby steps all the way.

Then, he leaped to safety!

Ben started getting more brave and I thought for sure he was going to go in.  He couldn't just cross once.  He had to do it a half dozen times.

We made Ben his favorite spaghetti for dinner.

And now, he starts his 10th year.
We took turns going around the table tonight saying what we love about Ben.
His tender heart...
his imagination....
he's never bored...
He really is a wonderful kid and I'm just glad he's mine.

Ahhh, but as your Uncle Jim would point out - he begins his 11th year. We're always one step ahead, don'tcha know, according to him? lol His math reasoning is that the minute we are born, we are beginning our 1st year of life.... etc.

That aside, yes, life goes really fast and I can't believe Ben is 10 already! Looks like such a perfect, wonderful day. It's great that you were all off and got to spend it together. Only Jim had a holiday here yesterday.

Love to you all,

What a great way to celebrate a whole decade of life completed and to be starting the 2nd decade which will have even more and greater challenges and accomplishments. Well done Ben and of course Mom and Dad.This next 10 will be more Ben and less Mom and Dad although always being there for each other will make the biggest impact on all your lives.
Thanks so much for all the great pictures . Of course Grampie is in heaven seeing everyone.
