Our house needed to be painted about a year after we moved in. We bought in the height of the housing boom and they did a bad job. I think they watered down the paint. It was finally time to get it done. We have to stick with HOA colors and get HOA approval. It's all kind of pain.

I wanted a big change, not just an update on our color. It seems all the new houses in our neighborhood are being painted brown with lighter popouts. I liked that looked, but was so nervous about going brown. But, we went for it anyway. And I LOVE it! The brown looks darker in the photos as the front of our house is shaded and there isn't any sun out today, but I'm a fan of the dark.

This was the before.

And this is after....

Here's the backyard which is actually in the sun, so you can see the brown better.

Looking at the backyard compared to the first picture I posted, it looks like completely different color of brown. But, it is the same. Amazing what some lighting/sun does! We are so happy to see that crappy paint job go. And I'm thrilled that we didn't go with the same or close to the same colors. Change is good.

My girl has been terrified of puppets from forever. She was watching a Youtube videos tonight on her ipad and a little ad played first. It was for this creepy movie called The Boy. The boy is a puppet that comes to life and not like a cute Big Bird puppet. This boy is about as creepy as it gets. She was scared and asked to sleep with me.  To her credit, David and I both thought it was super creepy too.

Isn't she cute?  She's such a pretty young lady. I love her.

Cruising With Great Kids

Can I just say how proud I am of these kids.

Noah ~ Student of the Quarter
Ben ~ Principal's list (all A's) and perfect attendance
Emily ~ Principal's list (all A's) and perfect attendance

They had their award assembly this week and it was the first one I missed in 7 years.  My stomach was all sorts of off.  So, David went instead.  I'm glad we have flexibility to do that.

And this week, I made all the arrangements for our Spring Break trip...

Yep, we are taking the kids on a cruise.  We were going back and fourth from a cruise out of Galveston, TX or a trip to Florida for Universal.  I really feel California has most everything Orlando does.  Sure our Disney doesn't have Epcot, but meh.  Universal Orlando is just on another level compared to the one in L.A. (although, Harry Potter is opening in April).  They have two parks in Orlando and it's full of superhero stuff and a whole Dr. Seuss land. A dream for our boys.  The last time we went was 2012 and Noah pretty much sat in the stroller the whole time and rode a carousel.  So, he'll have a blast!

Then, I got the idea to do a little of both worlds and take a 4 days cruise of the Bahamas, spend a few days at Universal and we get to see David's parents and friend as well.  Win/win/win!!!!

We booked a nonstop redeye flight that the kids are so excited about for the way there.  I'm not sure why, but they really wanted to take a nighttime plane so we are trying it.  This would certainly make those 5 hour plane rides a whole heck of a lot easier if everyone was asleep.  If it's an epic fail, well, lesson learned.

I really can't wait.  My toes have been cold since October and I could use some warmth.

A Day of Sledding

Just 15 minutes from our house, up Mingus Mountain, the elevation rises several thousand feet. Enough that we have no snow here and it looks like this there.

We've been up the mountain several times, but we've never taken the kids sledding there. We just usually go to the little park by our house with a small hill.  Now that the kids are older, we figure they can handle deeper snow and steeper hills.

This is the most snow the kids have been in.  They could've played all day 5 feet from the car.

That's a serious snow angel, but he couldn't get up.

David is over 6 feet, so it was probably close to 2 feet deep in places.

Poor Noah could hardly get up the little hill.

He made it though.  Nothing holds that kid back.

Then, they just rolled and jumped down the hill.

Me and my girl.

We got to the sledding area and Ben went down the huge hill first.  I thought it was funny and unexpected the first time.

The second time he went I was like, okay, enough of the flying 5 feet in the air. We are going on a cruise in 56 days. Broken limbs would be no bueno.

Noah and Emily went down the big hill from the midway point a couple of times.

Then, we all moved over to another area and made our own runs out of a smaller hill.  David and I would go down to flatten it out for them.

It was great fun and I'm sure we'll be back soon.

A Week in Review

It's been a heck of first week back at school. Sunday started with a three hour power outage.  My kids didn't know what to do at first and Ben asked me if that was how it was when I was a kid.  Um, when do you think I was born child?

I had the kids clean the bathrooms with headlamps.  They were not amused.  Well, Noah didn't mind.

I woke up at 8:30 to no power and my coffee was cold.  Where there is a will, there is a way.  Thank goodness our BBQ runs on gas.

They played Twister and had cereal for breakfast.

Then, the power came back on.  Yea!

Monday and Tuesday were regular days at school.  Followed by three days of two hour delays at school.

The kids didn't mind waking up to this every morning.

David talked me in to going on our walk in this weather.  It's not snowing he said.  It's not even raining he said.  We were a mile away from the house and the snow started coming down.

I didn't get a picture of Thursday mornings snow delay.  But, Friday morning was fun.

It was a good week back at school.  Then, I noticed Rocko eating something on our carpet.  It was tanish, and I thought it was one of his bones.  Turns out it was Obi Wan Kenobi.  Ben was playing with him in his room and I called him to dinner.  Rocko walked in, found Obi Wan and decided to make him an amputee.

For a second, Ben looked really sad.  Then, I told him to make it into a fun story and an alligator ate his legs.  To which he said there are no gators in Star Wars.  Ok, so Chewbacca got hungry?  Ben got over it and made him a wheel chair.

He was laughing and the picture is blurry and his eyes are closed, but I love his smile.

The weekend came just in time.  David has a fever and isn't feeling well.  We promised the kids a trip up the mountain to go sledding too,  Oh and all this cold makes me long for somewhere warm.  So, I booked us a trip to Florida for Spring Break in 56 days.  We are going on a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas and a few days at Universal.  Can't wait!
