We started the day at a yummy diner for breakfast. Then, we headed to my Grandma's. The boys liked her garden. She's amazing. 90 years old and still has an awesome garden with eggplant, basil and tomatoes.
Here are the kids outside the house that my Dad grew up in.
Then, Emily told the boys to come down in the basement. So, she tells Ben to go through a door. And I, not having a clue what was going on, told Ben that's where the dead bodies are. So, he carefully opens the door, and it's squeaking and out jumps my Dad. Ben jumped about a mile. It was hysterical.
Me and my beautiful Aunt Rosie.
My Dad and Suzy wanted to hang out with family for awhile longer, so we drove to the city and they were taking the train to meet us later. We had very little driving in the city. Once we were threw the tunnel, which the kids were amazed that we were underwater, the hotel was about 3/4 mile away. We dropped luggage and drove the 1/2 mile to the rental car return. And David and I were never happier to get rid of a car. I don't know how people drive down here. It's nuts. Then, we hit the town.
Here's the Empire State Building. It's like a block from our hotel.
Then, we headed for Times Square. We did the Discover center first. They had an Avenger exhibit there, but it closed on Oct. 1 to make room for Hunger Games. Ugh. Ben was disappointed, but not for long. We did their other exhibit on The Body and it was amazing. We were listening to the presentation and the lady says, "Out of respect of the donors, we ask that you don't take pictures. Except for the man on the horse." Donors? Wait, these are real bodies. Yep. It was sooooo cool. Every part imaginable from intestines to brains to fetus in every stage.
Yes, he's holding his brain. How cool is that?
Then, we found all the characters taking pictures. Ben runs over to get one with Spiderman and Mickey and Elmo jump in. Ben was like, "NOOOO!" I didn't realize, they'd all want $1 for the picture or I would've booted them out too!
Ben with a NYPD officer.
Then, we headed over to the wax museum and it was super fun!
It went up several floors, so we got a nice view of Times Square.
Ben was having a blast.
David and Scarlett. They all looked so real. It was neat!
Ben was totally in his element.
E.T.!!!!! So fun!
I think Ben loved it so much because every corner was a new scene and he jumped right in acting. We all got in on the fun. Here's picture overload.
They had a special 4D movie and super hero wax figures, so that totally made up for the other Avenger exhibit being closed. Ben and Noah were thrilled.
Then, we met up with my Dad and Suzy and we were about to do the Empire State building. It was close to 6 and I realized the kids were starving. We grabbed a slice first, and thank God we did. It was like 2 hours worth of lines and people, but it was totally fun.
The view was unbelievable.
They did great for the first 1/2 day, and everyone was still smiling at 9:00.
